From Up Above

From up above you look so calm

I want to hold you within my palm

I wonder if people are walking, enjoying their day

Or sitting inside just working away?

The city looks so empty and all alone,

Just miles of grass, water, and stone

Your shoreline stretches from along the coast

With silhouettes of buildings that look like ghosts

When I get back down, I will see the commotion

But for now, I sigh, just filled with emotion

Chicago, you are beautiful!

  1. I love the opening couplet. Such an interesting concept, that imagery. This whole poem is light and I like it. It makes me think how did I take in the city today? Did I even notice it was there? I did just once see the Willis Tower from the distance and smile from the south suburban highways. It’s a permanent welcome banner for those of us who live here. Very nice slice 🙂
